Ashwagandha (Withania Somnifera) is an herb used in Ayurveda, the traditional medicine of India.  In Sanskrit, ashwa means “horse” and gandha means “smell” so it shouldn’t be too surprising that its root has a horsey smell, which by the way, is said to confer the strength and virility of a horse.

Like Ginseng, Ashwagandha is an adaptogen, which helps your body adapt to stressors.  Best known for its anti-anxiety properties, this herb can lower cortisol levels and may mitigate stress-induced insomnia, depression, and immunosuppression.[i]

But Ashwagandha also has been shown to reduce low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and improve physical performance in both sedentary people and athletes. [ii] [iii]

While these are pretty impressive benefits, unfortunately, studies don’t show a whole lot of steel pipe prowess.  For example, one study published in AYU an international quarterly Journal of Ayurveda in 2011, less than 20% of participants using Ashwagandha had any change in ED symptoms.   Researchers concluded, “Ashwagandha was not effective in the management of Psychogenic Erectile Dysfunction when compared with placebo.”

But let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater.  When it comes to fertility and Ashwagandha, several studies have shown its ability to significantly increase “sperm concentration, ejaculate volume, and motile sperm count” as well as an increase in the serum levels of testosterone.”[iv]

And since we know that elevated stress and resultant cortisol kills testosterone and Ashwagandha lowers cortisol, we can use this in our arsenal as a complementary herb in a broad-spectrum supplement like the Man Up Formula. Let’s check out the Ashwagandha for erectile dysfunction Rockstar Rating.
