In our last post, we talked about the miracle of Avocados, which are loaded with potassium and Zinc. As one of the most essential minerals, zinc is also key for sexual function because it helps your body produce testosterone as well as synthesize thyroid hormones necessary for energy production.[i] And while you can get this mineral from the food it’s often not enough and zinc deficiency can lead to low immunity, hair loss, diarrhea, impotence, low testosterone.[ii]
Some of the most potent forms of zinc include items we already covered so you may want to double down on these.
Best Sources Of Zinc:
Shellfish, red meat, nuts, raw dairy, and eggs
Boron
Boron is a trace mineral with diverse and vitally important roles in metabolism for all plants, animals, and humans. While this may sound like some boring chemical on the periodic table of elements, when it comes to male testosterone there’s nothing boring about boron at all.
Multiple studies have proven supplementation with boron to significantly increase free testosterone by an average of 23% and lower estradiol, a form of the hormone estrogen, by an average of 40%. Remember the fat-storing example from earlier, which turns men into women? Well, by adding boron to the man-up formula we can significantly reverse that effect – man up!
Of course, as you may have guessed by now, it doesn’t end there as this rock star also drops all inflammatory biomarkers, which kill testosterone and end your life prematurely including interleukin by 44%, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein by approximately 50%, and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) by approximately 30%.[iii]
But that’s not it, as Boron protects against pesticide-induced oxidative stress and heavy metal toxicity; improves your brain’s electrical activity, cognitive performance, and short-term memory.[iv] [v]
Best sources of Boron:
Almonds, walnuts, beans (pressure cooked), apples, coffee, sweet potatoes, yams, honey
Raw Cacao
Cacao is the predominant ingredient in chocolate, which comes from cacao beans. When eaten in its raw form, it’s considered a superfood, which can give you a quick blast of nitric oxide and relax the inner lining of your arteries – good for blood flow to the big guy. The bonus here, especially in raw cacao, is that it contains loads of antioxidants and polyphenols, which protect you against the ravages of inflammation and old age.
If at all possible, I recommend you purchase raw cacao, otherwise it will be processed with heat and destroy many of the antioxidants. You can buy raw cacao powder and put it in your smoothies or on yogurt. If you take this route I recommend a reputable brand like this one from Amazon.
If you’re more inclined to munch on straight chocolate bars for dessert or right before you have sex, which I highly recommend, try my personal favorite Raw Chocolate bars on Amazon.
Yes, you can eat regular chocolate that has been processed; just know that it will be less effective. And if at all possible make sure it contains over 70% cacao.
Coffee and Caffeine
While you may love your morning coffee or black tea, it may not love you back quite like you want it to. As you know by now, to get old stiffy back up to speed, you need more nitric oxide, which dilates your blood vessels and lowers your blood pressure.
Sadly, the high caffeine content in coffee and black tea does the opposite. Instead of increasing blood flow it constricts it and raises your blood pressure.
Too much caffeine can also raise your cortisol and kill your testosterone.[vi] [vii] To top it off, caffeine is highly acidic and can create a breeding ground for candida and other energy-sapping, Testosterone lowering bacteria, and fungus.
And while coffee does contain antioxidants, which facilitate an increase of the enzyme nitric oxide synthase, which converts arginine into NO, the drawbacks mostly nullify these benefits. For this reason, you’ll need to really lower your caffeine consumption and opt for decaf or green tea whenever possible. Again, changing old habits isn’t so easy. So not only do I recommend The Winners Mindset to change your beliefs about coffee and health, but I recommend trying some green teas like matcha or yerba mate, which can taste like coffee without the overload of caffeine. Here’s a great option, which gives you 75 cups of tasty brew for $10 on Amazon.
