Music Therapy

Depending on your personal needs, our six core frameworks for healing are typically supplemented with some combination of yoga, movement, and breathwork to harmonize the mind, body, and soul for optimal well-being but can be adjusted based on patient preference.

1) Behavioral Music Therapy 
Behavioral Music Therapy supplemented with movement and breathwork can redirect unproductive behaviors, such as procrastination, impulsivity, and avoidance, to foster positive change. Some examples of this method include breathwork, singing, and lyrical analysis to spot and change harmful thought patterns or behavior or songwriting to create new coping strategies for persistent negative thinking. Behavioral Music Therapy can benefit individuals with anxiety, depression, and trauma-related conditions.

2) 3M Formula (Music, Movement, Mindset)
The 3M Formula, coined by Chad Scott, is a powerful technique that combines music, movement with breathwork, and mindset training to promote deep healing and lasting transformation. This formula involves integrating sound frequencies such as melody, rhythm, and harmony with movements like yoga or tai chi synchronized with breathwork to penetrate the filter of the conscious mind and access the subconscious mind. Once the subconscious mind is open to change we incorporate positive visualizations and autosuggestions with the goal of changing longstanding negative patterns and reinforcing change.  This comprehensive therapeutic experience benefits individuals with depression, brain injuries, anxiety, stress, and mood disorders.


3) Cognitive Music Therapy
Improve memory and focus through our cognitive-centered sessions. Some examples of this strategy include rhythmic grounding using yogic movement, breathwork, and percussive instruments like maracas, drums, and clapping.  One of our most effective tools is receptive listening, which encourages the patient to listen to the subtleties in lyrics, harmony, and rhythm, which can reduce both physical and mental stress. This therapeutic approach can benefit conditions such as memory loss, attention deficit disorders, cognitive impairments, autism, and mood disorders.  Depending on the patient's needs we may also use musical mnemonics, which are tunes or songs designed to enhance memory and cognitive functions and can help you remember information better by associating it with musical patterns.

4) Psychodynamic Music Therapy
In this framework of music therapy, we start with breathwork and then carefully choose music to explore your subconscious. Through imagining scenes and memories within this music, we address and heal difficult thoughts and emotions. This type of music therapy could benefit individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, or other emotional challenges.

5) Humanistic Music Therapy
Humanistic music therapy allows you to foster self-expression, creativity, and personal growth through improvisation and other techniques. For example, we may share a song or rewrite the lyrics of an existing song as a powerful tool for personal reflection. This therapy can benefit individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, and emotional trauma.

6) Neurological Music Therapy
With neurological music therapy, we can stimulate specific areas of the brain and encourage neuroplasticity with techniques such as rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS) and melodic intonation therapy (MIT). For example, when a client has suffered from a stroke and has lost the ability to speak the therapist may have the client use their singing ability to communicate by breaking down phrases and singing them rhythmically and melodically. The therapist will gradually reduce the amount of melody and increase the amount of speech until the client can speak normally again. This therapy is based on the idea that the musical part of the brain is separate from the language part, so even if a person can't speak, they may still be able to sing.  In contrast, RAS involves using music with a consistent beat to improve movement coordination in individuals with motor impairments. Ideal for individuals recovering from neurological conditions such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

Breathwork

Chad Scott offers a transformative approach to breathwork, harnessing the power of ancient techniques to enhance vitality, reduce stress, and promote overall well-being. With proficiency in various breathwork methods, including Ujjayi, Kumbhaka (intermittent breath retention), Dirga, Bhastrika, and the Buteyko breathing method, Chad guides you on a journey of self-discovery and inner exploration.

Ujjayi Breathing: Known as "victorious breath," Ujjayi breathing involves gently constricting the back of the throat to create a soft, ocean-like sound. This technique calms the mind, regulates breath flow, and promotes relaxation, making it an invaluable tool for enhancing focus and presence in yoga and meditation.

Kumbhaka (Intermittent Breath Retention): By incorporating periods of breath retention, or Kumbhaka, into your practice, you'll deepen your connection to the subtle rhythms of the breath. This practice improves lung capacity, enhances mental clarity, and stimulates the flow of prana (life force energy) throughout the body.

Dirga Breathing: Dirga, or three-part breath, involves consciously filling the lungs with air in a sequential manner, engaging the lower, middle, and upper regions of the respiratory system. This deep, diaphragmatic breathing technique promotes relaxation, reduces anxiety, and fosters a sense of inner balance and harmony.

Bhastrika Breathing: Also known as "bellows breath," Bhastrika is a powerful pranayama technique that involves rapid, forceful inhalations and exhalations. This energizing breathwork method increases oxygenation, boosts circulation, and invigorates the body and mind, making it ideal for enhancing vitality and clarity.

Buteyko Breathing Method: Developed by Dr. Konstantin Buteyko, this breathing method focuses on reducing chronic hyperventilation and increasing carbon dioxide levels in the body. Through gentle breath control and conscious regulation, Butyeko breathing promotes relaxation, improves respiratory function, and alleviates symptoms of stress and anxiety.
