Ever had a friend say something totally false and wonder if you 
should correct them? I once heard some wise advice from a Buddhist sage and it went like this: “There can be no revealing the true without refuting the erroneous. In fact, failure to correct what is wrong amounts to condoning evil and makes one complicit with it.”
Emphasizing the importance of addressing error in the realm of Buddhism, 13th Century Japanese Priest Nichiren Daishonin frequently cited the words of a well-known Buddhist scripture: ‘If one befriends another person but lacks the mercy to correct him, one is in fact his enemy” (WND-1, 625).
