Pycnogenol is a patented water extract from a flavonoid, which can be found in the bark of French maritime pine. L-Arginine is an amino acid that is used in the biosynthesis of proteins and helps your body produce nitric oxide.
In a study published in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, a group of men suffering from erectile dysfunction were given L-Arginine and Pycnogenol. After one month of treatment with 1700 mg’s of L-arginine per day, two of 40 male patients (5%) experienced a normal erection.[i]
So L-Arginine may not be so hot on its own, but get this: when researchers treated patients with a combination of L-arginine and Pycnogenol twice per day for the second month, the number of men with restored sexual ability rose to 80%. Finally, after upping the dosage to three times per day in the third month of treatment, 92.5% of the men experienced a normal erection.
Researchers concluded: “oral administration of L-arginine in combination with Pycnogenol causes a significant improvement in sexual function in men with ED without any side effects.” These researchers believe that Pycogenol’s additional benefits of lower blood pressure come from its ability to boost nitric oxide, which should come as no surprise.
And when it comes to sperm superstars, Pycnogenol could take the cake. According to a significant study by Dr. Scott Roseff at the West Essex Center for Advanced Reproductive Endocrinology in New Jersey:
“After 90 days of supplementation with Pycnogenol(R), the percentage of structurally normal sperm — that is, non-deformed sperm — increased by an average of 99 percent in the men. Sperm count and activity did not change… Pycnogenol could enable some couples to forgo expensive in-vitro fertilization in favor of simpler and less expensive intrauterine insemination” [ii]
As for cortisol, while there is no mention of direct lowering of cortisol there are studies indicating that Pycnogenol lowers stress hormones, which play an important role in brain physiology involving learning, cognition, attention and behavior.[iii]
Keep in mind, this stuff is really expensive and people get ripped off all the time by paying $100 or more for one bottle. I’ll give specific recommendations shortly so keep reading.
As far as Pycnogenol in combination with L-Arginine, unfortunately, to my knowledge, there are none. Fortunately, you can combine Pycnogenol with L-Citrulline, which converts into a more useable form of L-Arginine. “For example, 0.75 grams of l-citrulline ingested twice daily (1.5 g total) increased the l-arginine area under the curve to a similar degree as ingesting 1.6 g of l-arginine twice daily (3.2 g total).” [iv]
If you remember from earlier, L-Citrulline boosts nitric oxide making this combination a Rockstar standout. Moreover, studies prove that getting L-arginine from L-Citrulline actually “improves arginine availability” more than if you were to supplement with straight L-arginine.[v] Let’s check out the Rockstar Rating on this potent ED solution.
